Reiki Newsletter-January 2012

Dear All,

Our dear friend Tony organizes a “Distant Reiki Experiment” every year for 10 years (yes, this is quite a Cincinnati Reiki Holiday tradition now!). The purpose is to help Reiki practitioners charge their goals with Reiki for the New Year. It’s that time again. You are all invited to participate in this experiment. This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday January 1st at 3pm EST. To sign up and get the instructions click: http://www.distantreikiexperiment.org/

You can still participate if you don’t sign up. At 3 pm on Sunday, please use the following statement of intent during whatever process you choose to send Reiki so we can all focus the energy in the same direction: “I would like to send pure Reiki Energy to fully and completely empower and manifest each goal posted to the Distant Reiki Experiment's website; and to heal and empower every practitioner participating in this event as well as the Earth.”
May all your wishes come true...!

As my tradition in every January Newsletter, I’d like to share some tips on how you can create your resolutions and use Reiki for their materialization.
Ø Manifesting a reality starts with clear intentions (remember Secret: The Law of Attraction). What you focus on, you attract to your life.
Ø Express your New Year resolution with clarity. Instead of saying “I want to be happy”, define happiness. Say “I want a new job that will bring my highest potential” or “I want to be in a relationship where we can share and grow together”. In stead of “I want a new car” say the model and the color and add any other details as possible. This shows how clear you are with your goal.
Ø Always use positive statements in current tense. Instead of saying “I don’t want to be sick”, say “I am completely healthy”.
Ø Visualize yourself as already accomplished your wish or resolution, i.e. you can visualize yourself at the front yard of your dream home, at the office, or in a loving relationship. Visualize as many details as you can.
Ø Think about what emotions you’d have when you accomplish your goal. Add that emotion to your vision. Feel the breeze of the ocean or sand in the beach, warmness of the sun in your face when you’re in your dream vacation. Feel the joy, the happiness, the contentment of accomplishing your goal.
Ø To empower your goals with Reiki; you can simply write down your resolutions on a piece of paper or visualize it.
Ø Activate Reiki by saying an intention or affirmation like “I’m opening myself to Reiki”. Feel the gentle current of Reiki.
Ø If you know Reiki symbols use them at this time. If you are using visualization, beam Reiki to the image as if it’s in a screen in front of you. If you prefer to write it down, take the piece of paper into your palms and provide Reiki.
Ø Send Reiki to the image or to the paper for 5-10 minutes, or as long as you feel necessary. .
Ø Well, the work starts after you send Reiki. Make an action plan and work towards your goal. I’ve just updated my personal OGSM (Objectives, Goals, Strategies and Measures) and I’d be glad to work with you individually if you’d like to create yours. This is a tool I’ve adapted from corporate world. It starts with having a vision, mission, achievable goals, and measurable targets for your goals. It works amazingly!
Ø It’s also very important to prepare yourself for your goal and bring your surrounding conditions ready for the materialization of your wish, i.e. check internet resources for healthy diets, how to learn a new skill, etc. One thing I often do is to talk about my goals to my family and friends. The more you talk about your goals, the more you’re inspired and get closer to them. It’s also important to surround yourself with people who’ll support you and your goals.
Ø Always remember you are worth it and you deserve it!
Ø Probably the most important aspect is not to cling to the outcome. Remember it’ll be materialized only if your goal is aligned with your life plan and if it’s for your utmost good. Trust the Divine order for that.

Yoga and Reiki: The Perfect Couple February 5 1 pm-3pm at Grace Tree:
How do Yoga and Reiki relate to each other? Yoga is an ancient spiritual science that leads to well-being, peace, balance and even self-realization. Reiki is a spiritual healing method that balances, heals and helps to bring the “Divine-self out”. Practiced together, they can support each other and lead the practitioner to the ultimate goal, “self-realization” or being the “Great Bright Light”. This class will explore and compare different pillars of both Yoga and Reiki, and give you practical tips on how to use both modalities in your self-development. It’s perfect for all level of practitioners of both practices. https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/ASP/home.asp?studioid=10015

When I found about the letters exchanged between Saicho and Kukai, I was just blown away. Imagine two young monks, carefully chosen, to travel to China to study Buddhist teachings and to bring back the select texts to Japan. The year was 804! This is the beginning of a journey of friendship, hope, anticipation, collaboration and rivalry. One of the monks was Saicho, later to be the founder of Tendai School of Buddhism, the other was Kukai, the founder of Shingon school of Buddhism. Even though the storm separated their ships and they each went their own separate ways in China, the passion and dedication of these two men, unknowingly, impacted the history of religion in Japan and in some subtle ways our practice as Reiki practitioners.
To tell you little more about Saicho, the founder of Tendai Buddhism, just imagine him as a 19 year old monk who has retreated to Mount Hiei for 12 years! Prior to his trip to China and his uncovering of T’ien-t’ai teachings, Saicho made the following promises as written in one of his earlier works; “Ganmon” (vows) .
*1) So long as I have not attained the stage where my six faculties (five sense and the mind) are pure, I will not venture into the world.
2) So long as I have not realized the absolute, I’ll not acquire any special skills or arts (such as medicine, divination, and calligraphy).
3) So long as I have not kept all of the precepts purely, I’ll not participate in any lay donor’s Buddhist meetings.
4) So long as I have not attained wisdom, I will not participate in worldly affairs unless it to be benefit to others.
5) May any merit from my practice in the past, present, and future be given not to me, but all sentient beings so that they may attain supreme enlightenment

This deep dedication to practice continued throughout his entire life, as he founded an education system for monks, and established retreat centers in mountains for Tendai monks to meditate uninterrupted from distractions of daily life. Saicho’s administrative reforms paved way to a more autonomous order of monks that eventually opened new interpretations of Buddhist practices and flourishing of Tendai Buddhism in Japan.

So, what does this all have to do with Reiki?

Mikao Usui was a Tendai Buddhist. One common thing, I found, between Saicho and Mikao Usui, is the importance they gave to practice of precepts. Even though the precepts we are talking about here are different (Mahayana precepts vs. Reiki precepts), both men, Saicho and Mikao Usui, in principle thought that precepts were the foundation of spiritual practice. Saicho, for almost all of his life time, fought for substitution of existing Hinayana precepts with Mahayana precepts and gave the practice of precepts utmost importance. For Saicho the perfect practice was: practicing the precepts, practicing the meditations, and studying the teachings such as Lotus Sutra.
Although Saicho retreated in Mount Hiei for 12 years, and later established a retreat center in Mount Hiei , he also gave utmost importance to practice of precepts for the lay people. Amongst the pillars of practice, Saicho thought the practice of precepts could be practiced by anyone at any time. He thought that even if one doesn’t have time for meditation or mental ability to practice sutras, everyone could practice precepts.

For Mikao Usui, the Reiki precepts were the foundation of Reiki practice. We later learned that Mikao Usui started his spiritual teachings by teaching the Reiki precepts.
These two men who lived 1100 years apart influenced our lives as Reiki practitioners. Saicho giving utmost importance to the practice of precepts as the foundation of spiritual practice of Tendai Buddhism and Mikao Usui by making the Reiki precepts the foundation of the Reiki practice. So, what we need to do is simply: PRACTICE :-)

Just for Today, Do not Anger
Just for Today, Do not Worry,
Be Grateful,
Work Hard
Be kind to all living beings.

Dear Friends,

As a practitioner of both Yoga and Reiki, people often ask me how Yoga and Reiki relate to each other. I see them both as paths of self improvement that lead to “self realization”. Practiced together, they can support each other and lead the practitioner to the ultimate goal, “self-realization” or being “Great Bright Light”.

1) Physical practice: Both Yoga and Reiki typically associated with physical practice at first. Yoga in the West is associated with asana (posture) practice which is typically practiced to build power, strength, flexibility and balance. Similarly, first emphasis of Reiki practice is at the physical level, as a hands-on healing modality. Reiki practitioners typically start practicing hand positions to “channel” energy to induce relaxation, and promote health. The practitioner of both disciplines delves into the other components of the practice once they see that even the physical practice helps to promote well-being.

2) Built on pillars: Both Yoga and Reiki have supporting pillars other than just being the physical practice. Yoga, a 5000 year-old philosophy, depending on what type of philosophy you’re attracted to, has moral codes, breathing exercises, concentration and meditation techniques; all of which step by steps leads the practitioner to “self-realization”. Similarly, Reiki is supported with 5 Reiki precepts, attunements, symbols, mantras and meditations; providing a complete and a clear path to practitioner to discover and bring out the “divine self” and to be the “Great Bright Light”.

3) Taking the practice off-the mat/ or off-the Reiki table: Both Yoga and Reiki practitioners are encouraged to take the practice off the mat or off the Reiki table. Yoga supports practitioners with yama/niyamas or moral codes (compassion, truthfulness, honesty, self-restraint, non-possessiveness, purity, contentment, discipline, self-examination, surrendering). Reiki practitioners are encouraged to apply the practice to daily life by practicing the 5 precepts (Just for Today, Do not Anger, Do not worry, Be Grateful, Work hard, Be kind to all living beings).

4) Breathing: Both Yoga and Reiki use breath as a bridge between body and mind. In Yoga, a whole pillar of Pranayama practice offer practitioners an art of mastering life force energy. In Reiki, breath is an integral part of major techniques and meditations. Practitioners introduced to techniques, like Joshin Kokyu Ho, that use breath and Reiki (the spiritual energy) to connect, build and expand the energy-self.

5) Meditations: For some yoga practitioners, yoga practice equates to meditation. There are many traditions and techniques built around meditation practices to calm the mind and help practitioners to realize “self”. In Reiki, there are different levels of meditations that go hand in hand with the deepening Reiki practice.

6) Initiations: Repeated Reiki initiations or Reiju, help practitioners re-align and refine the connection to Spiritual Energy. Reiki practitioners are encouraged to get initiations frequently. In Yoga, depending on the lineage, initiations bring the energetic connection to the lineage and the connection is typically kept by keeping the attunement to the Guru (by serving, meditating on the Guru, etc.).

7) Practice,Practice,Practice: In both Yoga and Reiki, one’s own practice is utmost important. In Reiki, practice means practice of hands-on healing, precepts, meditations, symbols and mantras and attunements. In Yoga, depending on your inclinations, your practice can be selfless service, devotion, self-study or a combination of posture practice, breathing, contemplation and meditation. In both modalities, the prize of your practice is priceless :-)

I also find yoga very helpful to help connect to Earth and strengthen the grounding. Being balanced between Earth and Heaven energies is one of the goals of Japanese Reiki. There is one yoga posture that represents this phenomena: Tadasana-The Mountain. Standing up, feet hip distance apart, press the feet down, slightly pull the knee caps, firm the thigh muscles and lengthen thru the spine, roll the shoulders blades up and down, lift thru the crown of the head and feel the firm roots down the Earth. Be like a Mountain, firmly grounded to the Earth. Then raise your arms to a V and grow out to the Heavens, like the Mountains do. You are the perfect balance between Earth and Heaven, the Human Being.

Yoga means “Union”; union of body, mind, spirit and also union with the Universe and Divine. Reiki, for me, is a practice to bring the “Divine self out” and “to be the Great Bright Light itself”. These two paths, Yoga and Reiki, having the same ultimate goal and all supporting practices (precepts, breathing, meditations) make a great couple in the path of self realization.

Dear friends,

Last month I’ve mentioned that all my personal practices completely merged into one. They are now all indivisible pieces of the same practice to bring out the “Divine within”.
For a long time I saw these practices as separate ones. They all served a specific purpose for me. I always used yoga as my home base though. I had my yoga asana practice to keep physical well-being, meditation for increasing awareness and a calm mind and I used my dedicated meditation path, which is simple, pure, that takes me to the core of it all, to lift me up. I used yama/niyamas as my ethical precepts and yoga philosophy to feed my soul. Then Reiki came into my life. At first I thought of Reiki as a tool to cultivate compassion. Then I realized the potential of Reiki as a complete spiritual practice and it quickly rose in ranks. It was helping me align to myself to my true self and balancing me and opening my heart.
Over years these practices interacted and mingled one another. I started seeing the similarities and how these practices all support each other. After all they were all tools for an enlightened mind, cultivating happiness, joy, peace, well-being physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
On Sunday October 16th, I’ll talk about on how these different practices interact and mingle with each other, keeping the base as Reiki as a spiritual self-development path.
More to come next months, on how Yoga and Reiki relates to each other :-)

Japanese Reiki Teachings for spiritual self-development on Sunday October 9th 2pm-5pmThis class explores how Japanese Reiki teachings can be a spiritual self-development path by delving into each of the 5 pillars of the Reiki system (precepts, symbols, mantras, meditations, hands-on healing). This is a great opportunity to refresh your knowledge of Japanese Reiki or expose yourself to Japanese Reiki teachings. Class also explores how pillars of Reiki system correspond to paths in other major spiritual traditions. There are 4 symbols in Reiki, 4 doors in Sufism, 4 Vedas in Yoga and many more...
This class is for Reiki 2 practitioners and Reiki Masters who want to deepen their Reiki experience. It’ll be in Price Hill. If you learned Reiki with me, it’s a free continuous education class, $30 for all others. Please register, class size is limited. I’ll pass Reiju (Japanese Reiki blessings).
Location: Summit View Residences- Club House , 2650 Lehman Rd, Cincinnati, Ohio 45204

Reiki Day on Sunday October 16th 9:30pm - 5:00pm at Grailville Caravansary Bld.

The morning session is for Reiki Master/Teachers from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm; the afternoon session is for all Reiki practitioners from 1:30 pm until 5:00 pm. The event is free, like always we'll split the cost (~$20/person for Reiki Masters including lunch and $10/Reiki practitioners). Feel free to invite Reiki friends. Dear All,

What a busy summer it was! Here is a summary of what happened in last 2 months: After 9 months of preparations, Shinpiden class was a great success. We’ve had an awesome public talk at NTUC and as expected, Frans rocked Cincinnati! His simple but profound way of explaining Reiki, sharing Reiki without “doing” but “being”, was a fresh approach for many. The Shinpiden class was “unbelievable”. I knew it, but still, I feel so relieved that participants who entrusted our experience (Sundar, Tony and mine), left the class with the same amazing experiences. Entire class were blown away during the course of the three days. One person wrote” I am completely and fully enjoying all the changes that are occurring since Shinpiden Class. Everyday is bringing new Awareness and Awakenings. Shinpiden Class is a must for any Reiki Practitioner. Progress is evident and vibrant”. Wow that’s quite a statement. We will be working on bringing Frans back in 2012!

Yet only few days after the Shinpiden class, I had the privilege and good luck (and ok there is some past karma there too!) to spend 8 days in intensive teachings with Dalai Lama. Most people are asking me what I’ve learned. It’s hard to explain it in words but in short: all my personal practices completely merged into one. They are now all indivisible pieces of the same practice to bring out the “Divine within”. As 3 years ago, Frans’s Shinpiden class brought all the missing pieces of Reiki for me together, having Shinpiden class and Dalai Lama’s teachings back to back, has brought all the practices I’ve been practicing together for me. This includes yoga, Reiki, meditation and all the practices I’ve been doing to cultivate a nicer and happier person :-)
I’ve been sharing some of the teachings from Dalai Lama in my Facebook page. I’ll also integrate most of them to some of the advance Reiki continuous education classes. What strongly came to me after these classes was: I can’t afford to skip a meditation anymore, I need to invest to my own practice ever more so and I need to make teachings part of my everyday life even more so (I’m blessed with the perfect environment for this: a corporate job and a family). For a brief while, I thought of quit teaching overall; yoga, Reiki everything and make my own practice the core. However, in next 4 days following the Shinpiden class, 4-5 Reiki students independently contacted me asking for support for their practice. I took this as a serious message and I decided to re-start Reiki gatherings (which I haven't been doing for a WHILE). So, I’m thrilled to announce the first gatherings of the year, here we go:

Japanese Reiki Teachings-Refresher on Wednesday September 14th 7 pm - 9 pm in my home in West ChesterThis class explores the difference between Reiki as thought and practiced in the West vs. Traditional Japanese Reiki. This can be a great refresher class for core principles and practices of Reiki or a continuous education class for those who are trained in another lineage and want to expand their knowledge about Japanese Reiki practices.

Deep Dive into Symbols on Wednesday September 21st 7pm – 9 pm in my home in West ChesterThis class is an in depth exploration of Reiki symbols. We’ll discuss the meaning and function of the symbols. Did you know that the ultimate goal of symbols is to “be what the Symbols represent” and eventually drop them? So, how can we practice symbols to “be the symbol itself”? This class is for Reiki 2 and above practitioners only.

These classes are free continuous education classes for my students. It’s $30/class for all others. Please RSVP at Ning, FB or send an e-mail to turquoizen@yahoo.com. Space is limited.

Free Wellness Event at Grace Tree Yoga Studio on September 11, 2011 1 pm - 6 pmGrace Tree wellness practitioners and local businesses will be on site with information about healing services and products as well as providing presentations and demonstrations throughout the day. Yoga therapy, Hypnotherapy, Ayurvedic counseling, Holistic coaching services, Acupuncture and Qi gong, Reflexology, Natural Birth services, Reiki, Meditation, Wellness products. Grace Tree is located on 8933 Cin-Day Road, West Chester. No need to register, just stop by. I’ll offer a Reiki intro at mini sessions starting at 2 pm, followed by my regular Meditation meet-up at 5pm.

Healing Wednesdays at Free food bank in Manna Outreach in Price Hill“Healing Wednesdays” are now every Wednesday at the free food bank of Manna Outreach at Price Hill!. A group of Reiki practitioners offer Reiki to those who need. It’s very rewarding to reach out to communities that can’t afford Reiki. Come stop by any time between 10 am and 1 pm and stay for as long as you want. Please contact Elfriede at elfriede@knopf-family.net.

Stay tuned to news for next Reiki Day in October, we’re working to finalize the day, either Oct 9th or 16th at Grailville from 9:30 am until 5pm. Everyone is invited!

Reiki Newsletter- June 2011

Dear All,

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, is one of my favorite books. Recently I had a chance to read it again after almost 10 years since the first time I’ve read it. Only now I can see the similarities with Reiki principles. Here are excerpts from the book:

Be impeccable with your Word- Speak with Integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or gossip about others. Use the power of word in the direction of truth and lover. This agreement reminds me the Reiki principle “Be kind to all living beings”, including yourself, do not hurt anyone or yourself with the words (or even the thoughts).

Don’t take anything personally- Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering. Isn’t that the primary reason why we get angry, because we take things personally or when someone pushes our bottons, so “Just for Today, Do not Anger”.

Don’t make assumptions- Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life. One antidote to anger and worry is to express our feelings and emotions clearly and share them appropriately. Also everything we hear and feel are filtered from our own belief systems and experiences. By not making assumptions we can bypass all inherited beliefs.

Always Do your Best- Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you’re healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstances, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.“Just for today” reminds us to live in the moment, this agreement helps us to try our best in the moment.

Dear All,

Spring is the perfect time for cleaning and a fresh start. I started this new challenge and I’m so excited. This year I decided to try extreme Spring Cleaning. That’s not cleaning the house (wish that would happen too) but trying to see if I can live with 100 things only! My dear sister-in-law sent me a link last week and I’m completely in it. I wasn’t aware “Living with 100 things” was a recent trend that people are trying to reduce belongings and live a simpler life. At first it sounds easy, or OK, but wait until you start taking an inventory. I was always proud to think that I lived a simpler life. How many nail polishes is a woman allowed to have? How about accessories, jewelry, nick knacks. I quickly realized I need to put some rules of myself (which most people who follow this trend do). The common things that I share with my family won’t count (at first). The couch, the carpet, the TV, kitchen utensils, etc. I decided to start to reduce my “personal” belongings first. If I‘d leave for a trip to live for 1 year alone, what would I take with me? I started with jewelry first. I thought that would be easiest because I simply don’t wear much jewelry, Well…my wedding ring, the ring my mom gave me as a wedding gift, my ring with the Mayan calendar on it, ring that reminds me a triology and unity that I got from Peru, another favorite ring: 5 rings; to add to that ;the wrist band that reminds me my wows, the wrist band that reminds me of my best friend. Do I really need to wear something to remind me something else? As you see it’s getting complicated. The good news is underwear and socks count as 1 each :-) Watch where I go with this :-)Does anyone need jewelry, I have a bag full of it. :-)

Dear All,

I’m thrilled to officially announce that Frans Stiene is coming to Cincinnati to hold a Reiki Shinpiden Master/Teacher training in July 1-3. You’ve heard me talk about Frans a lot in last couple years. I’ve learned Reiki from William Rand (whom I love dearly) and I was teaching Reiki for 4 years when I attended Frans’ class. I probably would not go to the Shinpiden class, if I hadn’t seen the transformation in my good friend Sundar. What else I could possibly learn, right? Then my whole understanding of Reiki has changed, the way I practice and teach Reiki has changed. After all, I’m grateful to have come across Frans and I truly want you all to have the same opportunity. We’ll have an awesome couple mid-summer days in Grailville with Frans. Did I mention he’s coming from Australia? We’ll have 3 days of Shinpiden class, 1 day private Reiki sessions and a free evening talk for everyone to get a glimpse of him. As you see I’m really excited! The strange thing about his classes; people keep going back to the same class over and over again. This will be my 2nd time, Sundar’s 3rd time and Tony’s 4th time (yes Tony went to his class 3 times already in last year!, I bet a record). I know it’s a big investment but I still think this was the best investment I’ve done for myself (and I also had to fly to NYC and stay in Manhattan). I’m thrilled that I don’t have to pay airfare to go to his class this time (and he has discounted rates for his former students) :-) I already dream of warm summer nights, sitting outside at Grailville’s gardens under thousands of brilliant stars, with Reiki friends and talking about life, our passions and of course Reiki. Accommodation in Grailville’s old Victorian house, House of Joy, will be available. You can join me to stay there. Please check our training blog. You can find all information there. Let me or Sundar know if you have any questions. There are only 20 spot available and 7 people have signed up already.

Another exciting event is only a month away. You’ve guessed right! REIKI DAY! I must tell you I envy you. I’d really like to join you all for the Reiki Day but I’ll be in a business trip. I’m grateful that other Reiki Masters stepped up and will coordinate the Reiki Day. Patricia will lead the day. I’d like to thank everyone who volunteered to help, Gwynne, Michael, Tony, Sarah, Sundar, Bruce. It’ll be another awesome day.

Healing Wednesday will be on Wednesday March 16th from 10 am till 2 pm
“Healing Wednesdays” is to reach out to communities that can’t afford Reiki. It’s very fulfilling to provide Reiki to those who need it the most and can’t afford it. People start to line up at the free food bank at 10 am and we offer Reiki to all those who wait in line. Come stop by any time and stay for as long as you want. We take shifts. Contact Elfriede directly to register at elfriede@knopf-family.net.

Dear All,

There has been a discussion in Ohio Reiki yahoo group on the legal status of Reiki that I wanted to share with you here in case you’ve not followed the messages on the board.

One of the Reiki practitioners called the Ohio Medical Board regarding the legal status of practicing Reiki in our state. She was told by the State Medical Board that having a disclaimer or being a ordained minister will no longer legally protect you in Ohio. Claiming "stress reduction" won't work any longer either, “relaxation” is. All that is valid is having a LMT license or being a medical professional. Lots of other hands on healing modalities or energy modalities may fall under these restrictions too. Here is directly from her message:
“The very reason I called the Board was to ELIMINATE the fears. When we live in a climate of confusion and misinformation, it is not healthy for anyone, and I believe that out of respect for both my clients AND myself, and my fellow practitioners, calling the Board was the right thing to do.I want to clarify and say that nobody has said Reiki is illegal. What they are saying is that to practice ANYTHING professionally - and anything would include spitting on someone - with the intent of "affecting a bodily function" - THAT is practicing medicine. We are not permitted to practice medicine without a license. Thus, LMTs, PAs, NPs, MDs, DOs, no worries, you're good :-) The rest of us who are unlicensed as medical professionals, we have to be VERY VERY CAREFUL in Ohio. We are not permitted to say that Reiki is stress relieving (as stress is a measurable physical response) but we can say it's relaxing. We can NOT charge money to say and assure that Reiki - OR ANYTHING ELSE - cures or helps ANY medical or psychiatric condition, IF WE ARE NOT MEDICALLY LICENSED. That is the law in Ohio. A minister's license will not exempt us from this law. Some states have different laws... Vermont, for example, and New York. In those states, a medically unlicensed Reiki practitioner is not restricted. But here in Ohio, to practice any alternative modality, we must either become licensed medical professionals, operate under the direct supervision of one, OR we must remove any medical claims from our written and spoken words (yep, sadly, including "stress relief"). This is not coming from me - it's coming from the Ohio Medical Board.

One last important thing - the Board told me that they do NOT police the situation. They rely on receiving complaints. Scary when you think about the fact that our doctors are not policed, but the flip side is that unless any of us incites complaints, there will not be an uproarious investigation of Reiki in Ohio :-) This is another reason why I personally choose to be compliant. “

Our own Patricia wrote: “ This is how it is in the middle of a paradigm shift. Let's simply urge the shift to move a little faster so that hands on healing becomes the norm in 2012 rather than 2020....” which I whole heartedly agree.

Someone else wrote:“Who can regulate universal life force energy? Jesus would have been considered a felon under the current state laws”.
